Florida State Seminoles College Football Tickets Available

While the Florida State Seminoles college football team was officially established in 1947, the tradition of football in the Florida State University (FSU) began much earlier when a football team was set up in Florida State College, the precursor of the FSU until it was disbanded in 1905 when the college became an all-girls school. Despite the 42-year hiatus in collegiate football, FSU?s passion for the sport has not diminished throughout that time. This enthusiasm has been reflected in the team?s performance as one of the top teams in the Atlantic Coast Conference. (ACC)

Named after the Florida-based American Indian tribe, the Seminoles have been playing at the Bobby Bowden Field at Doak Campbell Stadium, located at the FSU campus in Tallahassee, Florida. Nicknamed ?The Doak,? the stadium was named after former FSU president Doak Campbell. The stadium field was named after Bobby Bowden, longtime (and current) coach of the Seminoles who is legendary in

Top 20 Cleveland Cavaliers:#14 Bob Sura

Chris Schaeffer went down at the plate in the eighth inning, when Florida State outfielder James Ramsey ran him over. Chris Schaeffer was diagnosed with a concussion and was released a couple of hours later. To add insult to injury, the umpire called catcher obstruction, automatically rewarding the point to FSU regardless of the outcome of the play.

Top 20 Cleveland Cavaliers:#14 Bob Sura

You better believe he was going to make the list.  At #14, we arrive at legendary Cavalier, Bobby Sura.  One of my favorite Cavaliers of all-time, Bobby picked up the game of basketball at age 4.  His uncle built him a wooden goal to practice on, and he took advantage of it.

Bobby played his high-school b-ball at G.A.R Memorial High in Pennsylvania, where he lead his team to two consecutive state championship games.  He was voted Pennysylvania small-school player of the year in 1991 after he averaged more than 35 points a game.  Bob was pretty much the real deal.  He set the school record for points scored, and in four years his team went a perfect 80-0 in league play.

Somehow, Bob was still not heavily recruited after his domination in high school, but he soon made headlines when he dropped 68 points in a single game.  This convinced Florida State head coach Pat Kennedy to offer him a scholarship, and he took his game to

BCS Predictions: 2010 Virginia Tech Hokies

The 2010 Virginia Tech Hokies have opened at online sportsbooks as an 18-1 play in BCS odds to win the national championship and this may prove to be one of the better values on the board as Tech is a consistent national contender that has posted double digit win seasons in 8 out of the past 10 years including 6 straight campaigns. The Hokies went 10-3 last year in college football picks and blew out Tennessee 37-14 in the Chik-fil-A Bowl. They also finished with their 5th season out of the past 6 in the black against the board. Virginia Tech will return 8 starters on offense led by quarterback Tyrod Taylor, a senior that threw for 2,311 yards last year with a 13/5 TD/INT ratio while also running for close to 600 yards.

Virginia Tech Sophomore running back Ryan Williams was a first team freshman All American as he ran for 1,655 yards and an eye-popping 21 touchdowns with a 5.6 yards per carry average. The loaded offense that averaged 32 points

4 Amazing Florida State Seminoles Football Facts That You Do Not Know

Fans of Florida State Seminoles football are familiar with basic facts regarding the team. However, you might not know these lesser known facts.

Are you a Florida State Seminoles fan? While Florida State has excelled in several sports, its football team in particular has become renowned. During its history, the football squad has won roughly two-thirds of all of its games, has won or tied 22 of 35 Bowl games, and has earned two national championships (1993, 1999). However, here are some lesser-known facts about the football program at Florida State:

1. Florida State was once West Florida Seminary

Football at West Florida Seminary started at 1899 (or earlier). Then in 1901, the school became Florida State College. The college won its first football state championship in 1904. Then in 1905, the school became a women’s college: The Florida State College for Women. Following the end of World War II, Florida’s university

College Football Predictions 2010

SEC Champion – Alabama Crimson Tide – The defending BCS champions haven’t lost a regular season conference game since the 2007 season. That kind of track record under coach Nick Saban gives them an excellent chance to bring home the SEC title again in 2010, especially now that a guy named Tim Tebow is no longer in the league. Odds makers have listed Alabama at +600 to win the BCS championship.

Big 12 Champion – Oklahoma Sooners – The experience that Landry Jones gained while filling in for the injured Sam Bradford gives the Sooners an excellent chance to find the top of the Big 12 ranks again in 2010. Without Colt McCoy under center, Texas could endure some growing pains, and Big 12 North challenger Nebraska doesn’t figure to be as dominant without Ndamukong Suh. Odds makers have listed Oklahoma at +500 to win the BCS championship.

Big 10 Champion – Ohio State Buckeyes – With plenty of returning talent

Ed Bagley’s Top 25 Poll – Week 13 – 6 Upsets Scramble the Rankings

Six AP Top 25 teams can testify how dangerous road games are—all were upset during college football’s 13th week of play, and 2 of the 6 will be facing off in the Atlantic Coast Conference championship game this week. The away losers included Georgia Tech, Clemson, Pittsburgh, Oklahoma State, Mississippi and North Carolina. These events caused changes in my Top 25 Poll. Here is how I see it this week:

1) Alabama (12-0) – Give the Crimson Tide credit. They went 8-0 to win the SEC West Division, and went 12-0 on the season after beating in-state rival Auburn on the road, 26-21. Alabama will now face SEC East Division winner Florida for the SEC title, and a shot at the national championship in a game probably against Texas. The Crimson Tide must now get done what they could not get done last year, beat Florida. Their unbeaten string last year was snapped by Florida, and the Tide never recovered mentally or emotionally, losing to Utah 31-17 in the Sugar

2010 Georgia Tech: 75-1 Odds in College Football Predictions

On the heels of their highly successful 2009 Atlantic Coast Conference championship season many sports handicappers and fans may be surprised to see the 2010 Georgia Tech squad as a 75-1 longshot at online sportsbooks in college football odds to win the BCS. But the question as to why is quickly answered as the ACC is much improved and tougher this year and the Ramblin’ Wreck plays a tough conference schedule that will make it difficult to come out unscathed. Paul Johnson has given Tech fans immediate results in his 2 previous seasons on the job as he went 9-4 straight up for his first year before last year’s 11-3 mark in college football predictions and conference title.

Johnson made his name at Navy where his option offense took the Midshipmen to regular bowl appearances. The option has paid off handsomely for the Yellow Jackets and gamblers who have been paid 16 out of 24 times in college football odds during the Johnson era. Tech returns 6

The History of the NCAA Basketball Tournament

The History of the NCAA Basketball Tournament

The NCAA Basketball Tournament is among us. This tournament is a looking glass for human hope, excellence and positive social change. It is, in short, a microcosm of the human existence, with all of its exuberance, tragedy and triumph. The NCAA Basketball Tournament is American sports.

The excitement and tradition of “March Madness” or the NCAA Basketball Tournament as we know it today has been shaped by many significant events in NCAA tournament history: The first NCAA men’s basketball tournament was held in 1939 with the first NCAA tournament championship game held at Northwestern on March 27, 1939. Only eight teams competed in two regions. Oregon defeated Ohio State in the championship game, and the West region held a third-place game.

Although the NCAA basketball tournament now determines the national champion, that was not always the case. Until the 1950′s, the NIT was considered a more prestigious tournament than the NCAA basketball tournament, and

The happiest guy at RFK Stadium in Washington, DC Saturday (12-20-08) was Wake Forest quarterback Riley Skinner, who managed the perfect comeback.

In early September Skinner had a horrific game against Navy on his home turf, throwing 4 interceptions and fumbling once as the Midshipmen pulled off a 24-17 upset. The exact opposite happened Saturday as Skinner went 11-for-11 and threw the go-ahead touchdown pass to Ben Wooster in the 4th quarter to lead his Demon Deacons to a 29-19 comeback victory over Navy in the inaugural EagleBank Bowl.

“He obviously didn’t have his best game the first time around,” said Wake Forest coach Jim Grobe. “Today in the rematch, I don’t know if he could have played any better.” Well said, Jimbo.

Skinner’s perfect day passing broke the 33-year-old school record for accuracy set by Mike McGlamry in 1975. Skinner finished with 166 passing yards and added a completion
